I was on a flight to Baltimore reading a book by my friend Chris Brogan. In one of his examples he mentions the game Monopoly - that’s when my mind started to wander.
One of the reasons I love games is because we played a lot of them while growing up. There are a bunch of us in my family (I’m the eldest of 7 kids) and my dad loves games. And competing. He’d teach us a game and then procede to beat us 99 percent of the time (just like in bocce ball two years ago!) He seems to master every game invented - and we always took great pride in any small victory we achieved against him.
As competitive as I am, one of my favorite memories is of a game that I don’t remember who won. I was 8 or 9 years old and playing Monopoly with my dad one night. I had a wonderful time. We played for a very long time. My dad would trade properties with me to keep things interesting and to help us collect monopolies. We played so long that the bank ran out of money and dad kept score on a piece of cardboard. We played and played and played. Our little metal pieces circled the board time and time again. We played until I couldn’t keep my eyes open.
That game made me realize that more than playing any game, my dad loved playing with me. I want to teach that to my kids. Thanks dad.

Here are the rules for the upcoming tournament:
Format: 1850 points. 3 Round Tournament. Swiss Pairings.
Winners will be determined by Wins. Tie breaks by Battle Points then Bonus Points. Only fully painted and based armies will be eligible for Bonus Points. Notice that if you go undefeated or perform well you can still easily place high (and win) in this tournament.
Bring 5 copies of your army list (one for you, one for each of your
opponents and one for the tournament organizer).
Bring your own tape measure, dice, codex and rulebook.
Scenarios: Each scenario will have 5 possible Kill Points and between
3-5 objectives.
Kill Points: Before the game starts, give a copy of your army list to
your opponent. Your opponent then chooses 5 units/independent
characters that are eligible for Kill Points. Only those selections
will give up Kill Points during this game. If a player does not have a
copy of his list to give to his opponent, all his selections are
eligible. If a player has less then 5 Kill Points in his army then
that is the max points he or his opponent can score this game.
Controlling Objectives: TWO non-scoring units are required to contest an objective from a scoring unit.
Each scenario will dictate deployment and objective placement.
Prizes to top 3. $15 entrance fee.
